Why can't I just plumb it from the tractor. So since winter is here it's time to fix.
#Hesston 1014 horsepower requirements crack
Some how in the middle of haying I managed to crack the tongue and lost all the oil. So I have an old 116 new holland hydraswing. Neighbor had one on a JD 3140 mfd/cab/loader first year, next year put it on his Mf 1100 was better match but, year after put on his MF 3525 mfd/cab that is where it stayed. An 8300 (200+hp ) is really nice on it, but even it can start to roll some smoke above 10 mph in heavy hay or straw. A 1431 NH discbine is about all we want on a 4250 (120hp ) in B2 or C2, 5 to 6.5 mph. Speed has a rather big influence on power required. Neighbors used to pull a 14' Hesston 1014 with a Ford 5000 and another neigbhor did the same thing with a MF 255. Does your 9600 have weights on the front? I'd rather have a bit more tractor on the front than the minimum.

I keep the brake pedals free to help turning in conditons like that just in case. The 86 is a bit light in the front on steeper slopes. Tractor has fluid now but when tire replacement time comes I am seriously considering radials with no fluid. That pull swather is heavy, and will really jerk you around if you aren't nice to it. Grass hay was sometimes better, sometimes worse as far as HP needed depending on type of grass.

Has liquid in rear tires, so weighs about 13K. The 9600 was about right in 3 ton alfalfa as far as weight and power. I've run a 1170 with a 9600 Ford and an 8100 JD. If you get in heavy crop and try to maintain some speed with our 16' Haybine (as I like to call them ) it will make the 4255 which I assume by feel has more than the factory 120 hp growl. Set the conditioner too tight and it will want more HP. #1 thing that is taking most of the HP on sickle machines like that is the conditioner. Are there any past or present owners who could tell him how much power he will need to drive it in good stands of non-irrigated alfalfa hay? I have a neighbour who is thinking about buying a Case 8380 or Hesston 1170 16' mower conditioner.
